J Gurney Water ColourThe History of The White SwanThe Swan in 1953

History dates this historic pub back as far as 1769 when it was bought by John Gibson for £120. Not a bad price eh?  Originally known as The Two Black Boys the name was eventually changed to White Swan.

Eventually the Inn became an integral part of the coach industry. Deacons Express Wagons changed their horses here everynight whilst on their way to and from London and Leeds!

Pictured right is The White Swan back in the 1950's and to the left a watercolour painted by J Gurney.
